Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This policy explains what personal data Dadvisory collects, why, and what rights you have over it. Dadvisory (dadvisory.net) is run by Patryk Smietana as a sole individual, and I am the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR.
You can contact me about anything on this page through the contact page.
What I collect and why
I run a small blog, not a shop. I don’t sell anything directly, I don’t take payments, and I don’t ask for your address or phone number. There are three ways your data reaches me.
When you use the contact form. I collect your name, email address, subject and message. I use this only to read and reply to what you sent. The lawful basis is legitimate interest — you contacted me and expect an answer. Messages are stored in the website database and deleted after 12 months unless the conversation is ongoing.
When you visit any page. I use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles people read and where visitors come from. This collects an approximate location, device and browser type, pages viewed and time on the site. The lawful basis is your consent, which is why analytics cookies do not load until you accept them. You can withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings on this site.
I also use Google Search Console, which shows me which search terms bring people here. This data is aggregated and I cannot identify individual visitors from it.
When you subscribe to emails. If you sign up for updates or download a free resource, I collect your email address and first name, processed on the basis of your consent. I use MailerLite to send these emails, and every message contains an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes you from the list immediately.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep the site working and cannot be switched off. Analytics cookies from Google Analytics are optional and only load if you accept them. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie banner settings, and you can block or delete cookies through your browser.
Affiliate links
Some articles contain affiliate links to retailers including Amazon UK, Argos and John Lewis. If you click one and buy something, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to that retailer’s website, where their own privacy policy and cookies apply — not mine. I have no access to your purchase details, payment information or account.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Who else handles your data
I use a small number of services to run the site: my web host, which stores the site and its database; Google, for Analytics and Search Console; MailerLite, for the email list; and the contact form plugin, which stores submissions inside the site database.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
I do not sell, rent or trade your personal data to anyone, and I never will.
How long I keep things
Contact form messages: 12 months. Email list data: until you unsubscribe. Analytics data: retained according to Google Analytics settings, currently 14 months.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask me for a copy of the data I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how I use it, and to withdraw consent where consent is the basis I rely on. To exercise any of these, contact me and I will respond within one month.
If you believe I have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I’d rather you told me first so I can put it right.
Children
This site is written for parents and is not aimed at children. I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Changes
I may update this policy when the site changes or the law does. The date at the top tells you when it was last revised.
